Data-based reporting: Ministry of the Environment and agencies in its areas of administration

In the area of administration of the Ministry of the Environment, it is planned to implement data-based reporting in packaging, waste, air, and water reporting. To make sure that the accounting software of the companies can safely be used to transfer the necessary data sets to the state agency, the capability to accept the data in machine-readable form will be created. This results in a reduction in the administrative burden for companies through the use of a machine interface to transfer data.

In addition to reducing the administrative burden on companies, ways to value data are being analysed. For example, it is planned to create waste recycling dashboards based on faster and higher-quality data, where the public and other parties can see the current status and developments of waste management. We think that such an increase in transparency creates trust in people and motivates them to collect waste separately.

The transition to real-time economy also contributes to the work of environmental inspectors. The data on which to make decisions will reach them much faster in the future. Today, decisions have to be made based on data that is up to two years old.
